Taylor's sometimes-used nickname is "Tails".

At Wimbledon 2001, Tails served a mammoth 144 mph, which was recorded as the fastest serve ever at Wimbledon up until that point, the fastest on tour that year, and one of the fastest serves ever. Tails could've made it 145 mph but that one didn't land in the box! A year later Andy Roddick hit a 144 PMH serve in the first round of the same event.

Taylor has a tattoo of two flags on his arm - the Australian flag and the American flag, honoring his joint heritage.

He has said that Davis Cup is extremely important to him- which makes sense as his father Phil Dent is not only from Australia, a nation intensely keen on Davis Cup, but part of a winning Australian Davis Cup team as well.

While most kids being turned out these days by the United States are baseliners, Taylor has been steered in the direction of the time-honored traditional of the serve-and-volley style of play. A direct result of growing up under the tutelage of his father Phil, this makes Tails a rare commodity.

He practices at the Costa Mesa Tennis Club in California, United States.

In 1996, Taylor won the USTA National Boys 16 Championships, adding to the USTA National Boys 14 Championship he won in 1995. As a freshman at Corona Del Mar High School in 1996, he won the California Interscholastic Federation high school tennis championship, becoming only the third freshman ever to win the event. Pete Sampras was the first.

Taylor admits that one of his bad habits is checking the speed gun after his serve to see how fast he whelped it.

Taylor's godfather is John Alexander, a former doubles partner of his father Phil's.

At some point he attended Monte Vista High School in California, the same school as Olympic skater Michelle Kwan.
